My plan for next semester is staying busy with 18 hours and continuing to work on my Communication major and Communication Management minor while knocking out some of the final common curriculum requirements. I’ll be taking Media Audiences as well as some business courses for my minor. I plan on getting involved with TigerTV as well as continuing my internship with News 4 WOAI. I’ve had the time of my life with that internship this semester and look forward to getting more involved as Spurs season progresses.
One interesting concept I will take away from the Klosterman readings is the idea of laugh tracks. I always knew that laugh tracks existed and that they were used in recording sitcoms but I never realized they were also used to supplement shows that are taped in front of a live studio audience. Last summer I went and visited Warner Brothers Studios in California and saw the set of the Big Bang Theory and actually sat where the studio audience sits for tapings and saw the microphones that hang over the seats. It never occurred to me at the time that while the audience is being recorded, the editors can sometimes go back in and enhance the audience with laugh tracks.
Another concept I will take away from this course are the chapters we read from White space is not your enemy. I found this information to be very useful, especially as a Communication major. I’m already applying the concepts I learned from this book for a final project in my english literature class this semester.
An article that I did not particularly enjoy reading was the excerpt from Freud for Beginners. While I found some of the information to be helpful and useful, it was a lot to try to understand at one time. It was really overwhelming for me and I had a hard time trying to grasp some of the concepts.
Finally, I would find the package I received in the mail a bit creepy at first but then realize that my life really is just one huge metafiction story. God writes my story and He is in charge of the path I go through in life. Yes, I make my own choices because He gives us choices, but ultimately He knows my decision from those choices before I even know them myself. I believe Johnny B. would be trying to tell me that.
P.S.- The title of this blog is in reference to a song performed by one of the favorite Country artists, Jason Aldean, off of his album My Kinda Party.
